Fluidisation and Fluid Bed Heat Transfer Unit
Product Code : LSK-TWL-10811
Fluidisation and Fluid Bed Heat Transfer Unit (SKU LSK-TWL-10811) is an air-fluidised bed trainer for studying gas flow through fixed and fluidised beds and measuring heat transfer from a heated surface to the bed. A transparent glass chamber lets students watch the bed from the onset of fluidisation to entrainment. It suits chemical and mechanical engineering labs. Science Lab Supplies manufactures the unit at its factory at Plot 448, HSIIDC Industrial Area, Saha, Ambala, India, and supplies it direct to colleges, tender contractors and distributors.
Specifications
Air is the fluidising medium, metered by flow meters reading 0.15 to 3.5 litres per second into a glass chamber holding the bed and an electric heater. On a glass reinforced plastic panel sit a variable transformer for heater power, a volt and ammeter, a digital thermometer and a bed pressure drop manometer.

Applications and Experiments for the Fluid Bed Heat Transfer Unit
The unit is used to compare packed and fluidised beds and to find heat transfer rates and coefficients, which are then compared with convective heat transfer in air. Students also investigate distributor design, depth of immersion, superficial velocity and particle size, topics shared by mechanical operations and heat transfer syllabuses.
- B.Tech/B.E. chemical engineering: pressure drop against air flow and minimum fluidisation velocity.
- Heat transfer coefficient between a heated surface and a fluidised bed.
- Effect of particle size, superficial velocity and depth of immersion.
- Project work with locally sourced bed materials and alternative air distributors.
Standard Scope of Supply
Each unit comprises the glass bed chamber with electric heater, air flow meters, variable transformer, volt and ammeter, digital thermometer, manometer and heater temperature controller on the glass reinforced plastic panel, together with the range of bed materials supplied. Alternative bed materials and distributors can be sourced locally.
Packing, MOQ and Lead Time
Request a quotation for one unit or for a complete unit operations lab; each Science Lab Supplies quotation states the packing, delivery time and price for that quantity. Other engineering lab equipment in India from the same range, such as heat transfer trainers, can be added.
As a registered exporter with an Importer-Exporter Code, Science Lab Supplies can ship to buyers in the Philippines, Nepal, Bangladesh, Zambia, Rwanda and South Africa. Enquire through the contact page or the enquiry cart, and see the lab tender page for tender supply.
Frequently Asked Questions
What can students measure on the fluidisation unit?
They can measure air flow and pressure drop through packed and fluidised beds, observe fluidisation up to entrainment, and find heat transfer rates and coefficients from the heated surface.
Can other bed materials be used?
Yes. A range of bed materials is supplied and can be changed quickly, and alternative locally sourced bed materials and air distributors can be used for student project work.
Is Science Lab Supplies the manufacturer or a trader?
Science Lab Supplies is the manufacturer. The unit is built at its own factory in Saha, Ambala, India, and quotations come directly from the factory.
What safety features are fitted?
All components are fused and earthed and a heater temperature controller is fitted, while the volt and ammeter show the heater power input throughout each run.
Related Unit Operations and Heat Transfer Trainers
These four trainers from the same range extend a fluidisation experiment into related particle, flow and heat transfer studies: settling of solids, flow regimes, flow through a packed bed and heat conduction, which are usually taught in the same course modules.
