Consolidation Apparatus
Product Code : LSK-SM-10656
Consolidation Apparatus (SKU LSK-SM-10656), also called an oedometer, measures how a saturated clay compresses over time under step-by-step vertical loading. Results give the compression index and coefficient of consolidation used to estimate foundation settlement. Geotechnical labs in engineering colleges, polytechnics and TVET institutes use it for one-dimensional consolidation tests. Science Lab Supplies supplies the outfit from Ambala, India to colleges, institutes, tender contractors and distributors.
Specifications
A loading yoke on a 1:1 lever arm with counterbalance adjustment, mounted on a steel frame stand, loads a fixed ring cell for 60 mm x 20 mm specimens, with the unit rated to 20 kg/cm². The cell has porous stones, a perforated pressure pad, a water jacket and a reservoir.

Applications and Experiments for the Consolidation Apparatus
The apparatus runs the one-dimensional consolidation test on clay: load increments are applied and held while settlement is read against time. Students plot void ratio against pressure, and settlement against time, to find the compression index and coefficient of consolidation in degree, diploma and TVET geotechnical practicals.
- B.E./B.Tech civil engineering: one-dimensional consolidation test and settlement calculation.
- M.Tech geotechnical labs: consolidation parameters for foundation design.
- Diploma civil engineering: demonstrating consolidation and settlement of clay.
Standard Scope of Supply
The standard outfit comprises the lever loading unit on its stand, the fixed ring cell with all parts listed above, and the weight set. It is supplied without dial gauge; a 0.002 mm x 10 mm dial gauge, a 40 mm extension piece and pads of 50 consolidation test forms are optional accessories.
Packing, MOQ and Lead Time
You may request a quotation for one outfit or several for a geotechnical lab; each one shows packing, delivery time and price for that quantity. The optional dial gauge and test forms, or other vocational training equipment for soil testing, can be added to it.
As a registered exporter with an Importer-Exporter Code, Science Lab Supplies can ship to buyers in Oman, the Philippines, Nepal, Bangladesh, Zambia and Rwanda. Science Lab Supplies is registered for GST (GSTIN 06ADEPJ0574F2ZU). Use the contact page for questions, the enquiry cart for item lists and the lab tender page for tenders.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a dial gauge included with the Consolidation Apparatus?
No. The outfit is supplied complete but without dial gauge. A 0.002 mm x 10 mm dial gauge is offered as an optional accessory, with a 40 mm extension piece.
What pressure does the weight set give?
Up to 10 kg/cm² on a 60 mm specimen, built from 0.05 to 1.0 kg/cm² increments. The loading unit itself is rated to 20 kg/cm².
Can other cell sizes be used?
Yes. The loading unit is designed for consolidation cells of different diameters, including floating ring cells; the standard outfit includes the 60 mm fixed ring cell.
Who supplies the Consolidation Apparatus?
Science Lab Supplies, a TVET lab equipment supplier in Ambala, India, supplies the outfit and quotes any accessories on the same document.
Related Geotechnical Testing Equipment
Consolidation is usually taught alongside shear strength and swell testing of clays. These four items from the Soil Mechanics range complete a geotechnical lab for foundation design exercises and can be listed on the same quotation as the oedometer.
- Triaxial Test Set — shear strength under confining pressure.
- Direct Shear Apparatus — cohesion and friction angle of soil.
- Soil Volume Change Meter — potential volume change of expansive clay.
- Expansion Index Test Apparatus — swell behaviour of expansive soils.
