Tangent Galvanometer
Product Code : LSK-LM-11127
Tangent Galvanometer (SKU LSK-LM-11127) is a classic instrument for measuring small electric currents by the tangent law, using a circular copper coil with 2, 50 and 500 turn windings and a compass box at its centre. It is a standard practical in Class 12 and B.Sc. physics for magnetic effects of current and the horizontal component of the Earth’s field. Science Lab Supplies supplies this tangent galvanometer from Ambala, India to schools, colleges, training institutes, tender contractors and distributors.
Specifications

Applications and Experiments for the Tangent Galvanometer
The coil is set in the magnetic meridian; a current through it produces a field at the centre at right angles to the Earth’s horizontal field, and the needle settles at an angle whose tangent is proportional to the current. This makes it core physics lab equipment in India for senior school and college.
- Class 12 physics: finding the reduction factor and the horizontal component of the Earth’s magnetic field, with current read on an Ammeter and set by a Rheostat, Constantine (Eureka) Wire.
- Averaging deflections for both current directions by switching with a Reversing Key Commutator For Lab.
- B.Sc. practicals: comparing the 2, 50 and 500 turn coils for different current ranges.
- Magnetometer work with the detachable compass box.
Keep magnets, steel tools and current-carrying leads away from the instrument while readings are taken, as they disturb the needle.
Standard Scope of Supply
Each Tangent Galvanometer is supplied with its three-winding copper coil on the Bakelite bobbin, four marked terminals, the non-magnetic tripod base with levelling screws and the detachable compass box with aluminium dial, mirror and needle. Power supply, ammeter, rheostat and reversing key are quoted separately.
Packing, MOQ and Lead Time
You can request a price for one tangent galvanometer or a set for every group in a Class 12 or B.Sc. lab. Science Lab Supplies sets out packing, delivery time and price for the quantity requested, and the companion ammeter, rheostat and key can join that quotation.
Science Lab Supplies holds an Importer-Exporter Code and can ship to buyers in Vietnam, Malaysia, Peru, Egypt, Iraq and Nigeria. Make an enquiry through the contact page or the enquiry cart, or read the lab tender page for tender supply.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the coil have 2, 50 and 500 turns?
Different numbers of turns give different sensitivities. The 500 turn winding suits very small currents, while the 2 and 50 turn windings handle larger currents, so the deflection can be kept in a readable range.
Can the compass box be used on its own?
Yes. The compass box (magnetometer) is detachable and can be used separately for magnetometer experiments. Its aluminium dial is 100 mm in diameter, graduated 0–90° four times, with an anti-parallax mirror.
How is the instrument set up before readings?
Level the tripod base with its screws, turn the coil about its vertical axis until its plane lies in the magnetic meridian, and check that the pointer reads zero with no current flowing.
Who supplies the Tangent Galvanometer?
Science Lab Supplies supplies the tangent galvanometer from Ambala, India, and can quote the ammeter, rheostat, reversing key and power supply for the experiment on the same document.
