Ballistic Galvanometer
Product Code : LSK-LM-11130
Ballistic Galvanometer (SKU LSK-LM-11130) is a highly sensitive moving-coil instrument designed for very low current measurement and, through its long 12 second period, for measuring the charge carried by brief current pulses. A coil with a mirror hangs between a long upper suspension and a lower spring of special alloy, inside a bakelite case. It is offered in 100 Ω and 500 Ω versions. Science Lab Supplies supplies it from Ambala, India to colleges, schools, training institutes, tender contractors and distributors.
Specifications
Each listed specification of both versions appears as its own row below. In short, the 100 Ω model gives 300 mm/µC charge sensitivity and 1000 mm/µA current sensitivity, while the 500 Ω model gives 600 mm/µC and 1400 mm/µA; both have a 12 s time period and levelling screws for balancing the coil.

Applications and Experiments for the Ballistic Galvanometer
The long period lets a short pulse of charge pass before the coil moves, so the first throw of the mirror spot is proportional to the charge. That makes the instrument central to capacitance, charge and magnetic-flux practicals in B.Sc. and engineering physics lab equipment in India.
- B.Sc. physics: comparing capacitances and measuring charge by discharging a capacitor through the coil, closing the circuit briefly with a Tapping Key Physics Lab.
- Determining high resistance by the leakage method, and finding the ballistic constant.
- Magnetic flux and mutual-inductance experiments, with current reversed through a Reversing Key Commutator For Lab.
- Engineering physics labs: very low current detection in sensitive circuits.
Level the instrument with its screws and protect the delicate suspension from shock or vibration. Never pass a large current through the coil.
Standard Scope of Supply
Each Ballistic Galvanometer is supplied as the movement in its bakelite case, with the coil and mirror on its alloy suspension and spring, and levelling screws. Choose the 100 Ω or 500 Ω version; a lamp-and-scale arrangement, keys and capacitors are quoted separately if required.
Packing, MOQ and Lead Time
Quotations can be for a single galvanometer or for several units for a college electricity lab. Science Lab Supplies sets out packing, delivery time and price for that quantity, and keys, condensers or bridges can be grouped on the same quotation.
With an Importer-Exporter Code in place, Science Lab Supplies can ship to buyers in Egypt, Iraq, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana and Ethiopia. Use the contact page or the enquiry cart to ask for a quotation; tender buyers can follow the lab tender page.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the 100 Ω and 500 Ω versions?
The 500 Ω model is more sensitive: 600 mm/µC and 1400 mm/µA against 300 mm/µC and 1000 mm/µA for the 100 Ω model. Its critical damping resistance is 3500 Ω, compared with 2000 Ω.
Why does a ballistic galvanometer have a long time period?
A 12 second period means the coil barely moves while a brief current pulse passes, so the first deflection measures the total charge delivered rather than the current at one instant.
What does critical damping resistance mean?
It is the external resistance at which the coil returns to rest fastest without overshooting. Here it is 2000 Ω for the 100 Ω model and 3500 Ω for the 500 Ω model.
Who supplies the Ballistic Galvanometer?
Science Lab Supplies supplies it from Ambala, India, in the 100 Ω or 500 Ω version you specify, and can include keys and other electricity apparatus on the same quotation.
